Love Never Dies premiered at Nissay's Theatre last March 12th in Japan (take a look at the pictures here!) and it brought a big surprise with it. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Simon Phillips attended to the opening night and the evening before the show premiered, they answered a few revealing questions. A possible Broadway production has been in talks for the last years and after this interview, I can only say that the day is getting closer. Read the Broadwayworld article, here!
Webber and Simon Pillips are being interviewed by Broadway.com editor in-chief Paul Wontorek while they are in Tokyo waiting to attend to the last rehearsals of the new production and its premiere. "Extraordinary" says the composer. "It'd be great to get into America now." They're mainly talking about the Australian production and its achievement. That's the reason why the Japanese production and the Broadway to come are based on that one instead of the London original.
"People worry about what happens to the child, that's the feedback we've had. If we do change the ending, we could make it more comfortable for people." "It's going to be a shock to the system" says Phillips. After this "brand-new ending", the interviewer asks "So you are telling me that you might kill the Phantom at the end". "We might, we might… but we might not" is the answer Webber gives, with a big laugh shared by Phillips. And here's the best part: "What percent chances of this happening? [the musical going to America]" "Pretty high" answers Webber.
